Job market
The most important branch of the economy is tourism, with almost 20 million foreign guests (2019), contributing 20% to the GDP. The main economic branches in the country are determined by natural resources, but also by technology and industry (food industry, petrochemicals, metalworking). As in many European countries, the greatest problem facing the Croatian economy in the current period of crisis is the relatively high level of unemployment.
Sectors and occupations where the monthly average of unemployed persons for more than 6 months, and number of entries in the records of unemployed persons in 2019 were proportionally high, are the following: in the manufacturing/processing industry, trade; transportation and storage; public administration and defence/administrative and support services; agriculture; supporting services; activities of households as employers.
