How to find a job

The Croatian Employment Service and private job search portals are the main source of information about available job vacancies, together with companies’ own websites and professional organisation websites, newspapers and professional journals. Jobs in the public sector must be published in the Official Gazette. In smaller communities, vacancies are often advertised on radio stations.

Many large employers use online application forms on their websites to create a database of potential candidates for future vacancies. Small private employers use private channels and recommendations in addition to published advertisements in order to reach the best candidates. It is not unusual for small employers in the catering sector to advertise job openings on their social media pages, asking followers to share the information

Private agencies for casual and temporary employment provide the opportunity to enrol in their database. A worker signs an employment contract with the agency, which then assigns the worker to perform tasks for an employer with a temporary need for additional staff.

The Croatian Employment Service – CES (Croatian: Hrvatski zavod za zapošljavanje – HZZ) is a public institution owned by the Republic of Croatia, established under the Labour Market Act, and it plays a key role in regulating supply and demand in the labour market of the Republic of Croatia.
