Exploring the country
Finland is mostly famous for its incredible natural beauty: crystal clear lakes with rivers and streams in between, stunning island archipelagos, and towards the north, pristine winter wonderlands. It is also home to many extraordinary species of animals that are rare, endangered, or extinct in the rest of western Europe.
Among other attractions, Finnish Lapland is a unique winter holiday destination, where you can visit Santa’s village, northeast of Rovaniemi, or watch the Northern Lights (also known as Aurora Borealis), which can be observed on around 150 nights in a year from mid-August till early April.
Saunas are everywhere in Finland, but ones you’ll never forget include the world’s biggest underground smoke sauna, Herrankukkaro (Mama's Pocket), on an island just south of Turku. Search here for more info.
Finland has also 7 properties inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Take a look here at the Unesco sites in Finland.
