Where to stay

The price of accommodation varies depending on the city and region you live in. In general, it can be said that in the big cities in the west and south of Germany the cost is on average higher. To find accommodation in Germany you need two things above all: to be well informed and to be patient! If you plan to move to Germany for a longer period, you could rent a flat with several rooms and then look for roommates. If you would like to try living in a young and international environment, you could consider a WG (Wohngemeinschaft), i.e. a flat shared with students. Each student has their own room, while the bathroom and kitchen are usually shared spaces.

What if you don't have a place to stay when you arrive in Germany? For the first few days you can stay in a hotel, guesthouse, b&b or youth hostel. There are around 450 youth hostels in Germany, offering shared, single and double rooms.
