Job market
Prior to 2020, Poland’s labour-market indicators had been improving steadily, and the country was gradually closing in on the EU average. In 2020, Poland’s employment rate for the 20–64 age group stood at 73.6%, in line with the European Commission’s 2020 target.
As of late 2023 and into 2024, the unemployment rate in Poland remained exceptionally low. According to Eurostat (reported by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy), Poland’s unemployment rate in December 2023 was 2.7%, ranking it second-lowest in the EU.
By the end of 2024, the rate (by Eurostat methodology) held at 3.0%, compared to an EU average of 5.9%.
Meanwhile, the registration-based unemployment rate reported by Statistics Poland was 5.1% at year-end 2024.
In April 2024, this registered unemployment rate reached its lowest level in over 30 years.
On the employment-rate side, EURES data shows that by 2023, Poland’s overall employment rate reached 72.4%, roughly 2 percentage points above the EU-27 average.
In 2024, however, demand varied by sector: by the fourth quarter, Poland recorded 91,000 vacancies, and the job-vacancy rate had fallen to 0.74%.
At the same time, demand by occupation in 2024 revealed that professionals and craft and trade workers (especially in construction) were among the most sought-after.
