Traineeships
In the Slovak legislation there is no definition of “traineeships”, since they do not constitute employment in the strict sense of the word. A traineeship is not a type of employment relationship, but it refers to a specific activity that can be performed both by students and non-students.
The main form of gaining professional experience in the form of traineeship in Slovakia is called “absolventská prax” (graduate practice), one of the measures of the Public Employment Service.
The conditions to participate are:
- being a EU citizen who have been registered to Slovak PES for at least a month;
- a citizen younger than 26 years of age who completed continuous training for a profession in the form of full-time studies at the appropriate level of education less than two years ago and has not had a regularly paid job since its completion;
- a tripartite agreement concluded between PES, Employer/Hosting Subject and Trainee;
- a duration of between 3 and 6 months;
- a weekly schedule of 20 hours;
- during the completion of the graduate practice, the relevant office of labor, social affairs and family pays the school graduate a monthly flat-rate allowance in the amount of 65% of the amount of the subsistence minimum - 152.37 euros provided to one natural person of legal ageduring the completion of the graduate practice, the school graduate remains in the register of job applicants of the relevant office of labor, social affairs and family;
- a final certificate issued by the host.
